Pharmaceutical packaging market projected to reach $744.6 billion by 2035

A new report from Global Market Insights forecasts a 15.9% annual growth rate, driven by increasing pharmaceutical demand, regulatory requirements and advances in packaging technologies.

The global pharmaceutical packaging market is projected to reach $744.6 billion by 2035, up from $172.6 billion in 2025, according to a new report from Global Market Insights Inc. The forecast represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.9% over the 10-year period.

Growth is being driven by increasing demand for pharmaceutical products, an aging global population and the rising prevalence of chronic health conditions. These factors are creating greater demand for packaging solutions that protect drug integrity, maintain product stability and comply with stringent safety regulations.

According to the report, primary packaging accounted for 70.4% of the global market in 2025, reflecting the importance of packaging materials that come into direct contact with pharmaceutical products. Demand in this segment is being supported by requirements for sterility, chemical stability, contamination prevention and extended shelf life.

Rigid packaging represented 56.5% of the market in 2025, benefiting from its durability, protective properties and suitability for pharmaceutical applications. Increasing adoption of prefilled and ready-to-use drug delivery formats is also contributing to growth in this category.

North America accounted for 35.3% of the global pharmaceutical packaging market in 2025. The region’s market position is supported by pharmaceutical manufacturing activity, regulatory requirements and continued investment in packaging materials and technologies.

For label and packaging converters, the industry’s expansion presents opportunities in pharmaceutical labeling, flexible packaging and specialty materials designed to meet demanding performance and compliance requirements. Growing emphasis on product identification, tamper evidence, traceability and packaging integrity continues to influence packaging development.

The report also identifies sustainability as an increasingly important consideration, with manufacturers investing in recyclable materials, lightweight packaging structures and production processes designed to reduce environmental impact.

Companies operating in the market include Amcor, CCL Industries, AptarGroup, Huhtamaki, Gerresheimer, Schott, Stevanato Group and West Pharmaceutical Services, among others.

The report indicates that packaging manufacturers are expanding production capacity, investing in advanced materials and pursuing strategic partnerships to address evolving pharmaceutical industry requirements.
